Selanne Steak Tavern, known especially for its superb California and French wine selections and fine upscale steakhouse fare, has been awarded the prestigious Best of Award of Excellence for the seventh consecutive year. This distinction bestowed by Wine Spectator, the world’s leading authority on wine, is the second highest level of Wine Spectator’sannual recognition program, honoring the world’s best wine restaurant lists with outstanding wine service.

“Once again, we are very proud of winning the prestigious Best of Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator,” said Selanne Steak Tavern owners Teemu Selanne and Kevin Pratt. “We thank the publication and industry leaders for its ongoing awards program, magazine and newsletters, podcasts, apps, wine ratings and restaurant search coverage. In addition, we applaud Sommelier Pasquale, Chef Vincent Terusa, General Manager Chad Sisco and their dedicated hospitality teams for their continued service and expertise extended to our loyal Southern California guests and to visiting food and wine lovers from around the globe.”

According to Selanne Steak Tavern’s certified advanced sommelier Vito Pasquale, who has been leading the selection and procurement of wines for their list, its meticulous wine bottle storage, staff training and popular wine events since 2013, “Our 3,000-bottle inventory of 400 carefully chosen, diverse wine features selections from California and France, as well as curated options from Washington, Oregon, Italy, New Zealand, Spain, Argentina, Germany, Austria, South Africa, Portugal, Canada and Australia. The list is designed to appeal to all wine lovers — their palates, pairing preferences and spending desires.”

This year’s awards program recognizes 3,500 dining destinations from all 50 states and more than 75 countries and territories. It is an award only garnered by restaurants that offer 350 or more selections. This year there are 1,411 winners of the Best of Award of Excellence award. They are establishments whose wine collections exhibit a breadth of wine regions and styles, as well as vintage depth through vertical inventories of notable wines. Training and wine education are important criteria of each restaurant’s program for the staff to help guests make informed wine choices. All award-winners will also be featured in Wine Spectator’s August 31 issue, which hits newsstands on Tuesday, July 11, and the list is presently available on WineSpectator.com.
