Oceanfront Four Star Forbes Travel Guide winner mar’sel at Terranea Resort, the oceanfront luxury resort just south of Los Angeles, has been awarded Wine Spectator’s Best of Award of Excellence for its ninth consecutive year. Wine Spectator is considered by many as the world’s leading authority on wine. mar’sel received the second highest level of Wine Spectator’s annual awards program, which recognizes the world’s best wine restaurant lists and programs exemplifying outstanding wine service.

mar’sel’s wine collection of 375 bottles is designed to complement Michelin-starred Chef de Cuisine Fabio Ugoletti’s seasonal New American dishes featuring farm-to-table creations using ingredients from Terranea’s herb and vegetable garden and from nearby Catalina View Farms. The wine offerings provide discerning guests with an interesting selection of both New World and Old World varietals — California cult, French Bordeaux, Burgundy and many others from Italy, Portugal, Oregon, Germany, Australia, Austria, New Zealand, South Africa, Chile, Argentina, Hungary and Spain. The 5,000-bottle wine cellar is meticulously maintained with prestige and vintage wines offered through the Coravin system to preserve optimal freshness and quality. In addition, mar’sel teammates collaborate with guests to present outstanding, bi-monthly, interactive vintner dinners, most recently a dinner in conjunction with Veuve Clicquot. The entire dining experience is complemented by the sound of crashing waves and panoramic Pacific Ocean views.

This year’s awards program recognizes dining destinations from all 50 states and more than 75 countries and territories. To be considered for a Best of Award of Excellence recognition, establishments must offer 350 or more selections that show a breadth of regions and styles, as well as vintage depth through vertical collections of notable wines.
